Prince William is reportedly taking the strongest stance possible against his uncle, Prince Andrew, following the disgraced royal’s loss of his royal titles amid the ongoing scandal involving his ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein.
The Prince of Wales, 43, plans to ban Andrew from all aspects of royal life—including his coronation when William becomes king—according to a report by the Sunday Times published Saturday.
William was reportedly consulted on the decision for Andrew, 65, to give up his royal titles and honors. However, he is said to be unsatisfied with the outcome and plans to take harsher action in the future. Andrew will be excluded from public and private royal events, including the coronation, and banned from most state occasions, the report stated.
“William considers his uncle a ‘threat’ and a reputational risk to the monarchy,” the outlet added, “and is understood to be concerned about the message Andrew’s presence at royal events sends to victims of sexual abuse.”
In addition, William reportedly plans to ban Sarah Ferguson, Andrew’s ex-wife who has stood by him throughout the scandal, from attending royal events.
A representative for William did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
As for the former Duke of York, he agreed on Friday that the “continued accusations” against him and his connection to Epstein, a convicted sex offender, “distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal family,” according to the Telegraph.
“I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first,” Andrew said in a statement released by Buckingham Palace. “I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.”
He went on to say, “With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.”
However, Andrew stressed, “As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
He also noted that this decision was made after “discussion with [brother King Charles III] and [their] immediate and wider family.”
Authorities are investigating Andrew following reports that he asked a police protection officer to dig up information about the late Virginia Giuffre in leaked emails.
The royal reportedly told Queen Elizabeth II’s deputy press secretary in 2011 that he gave an officer Giuffre’s U.S. Social Security number and date of birth to look into her alleged criminal record, according to the Mail on Sunday.
This email was allegedly sent shortly before a 2001 photo surfaced showing Andrew with his arm wrapped around Giuffre’s waist when she was 17 years old. Epstein’s ex-girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell—who was convicted of sex trafficking in 2021 and sentenced to 20 years in prison—also appears in the picture.
It remains unclear whether the officer complied with Andrew’s request.
Virginia Giuffre died by suicide in April 2025 at the age of 41 after years of accusing Andrew of sexual assault. She alleged that he was involved in Epstein’s sex trafficking ring and raped her when she was a minor.
Giuffre filed a formal lawsuit against Andrew in 2021, and the case was settled out of court in 2022 for an estimated $12 million.
