Hawaii freshman outside hitter Cha’lei Reid led the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team with a match-high 18 kills as they snapped a four-match losing streak with a straight-sets victory over UC San Diego. The Wahine won 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 today at LionTree Arena in La Jolla, Calif.
Senior Bri Gunderson contributed nine kills in just 12 swings, adding three blocks to her impressive performance. Miliana Sylvester and Tyla Reese Mane each chipped in seven kills for Hawaii (7-12, 3-5 Big West), which improved its perfect record to 10-0 all-time against the Tritons (4-16, 2-6).
Hawaii hit a season-high .385 attack percentage while committing only nine hitting errors. Defensive efforts were led by Victoria Leyva, who notched a team-high 11 digs. Setter Adriana Arquette recorded 30 assists, eight digs, three blocks, and a kill.
Both Leyva and Mane contributed significantly from the service line, combining for two of Hawaii’s six aces in the match.
The Rainbow Wahine will conclude their longest road trip of the season on Tuesday with a matchup against UC Irvine.
