Lego’s new Game Boy set is now available for purchase! The 421-piece build was officially released earlier this month and has quickly become an editor favorite.
While the set is currently on backorder on Lego’s official website, it remains in stock on Amazon for those eager to get their hands on it sooner. When Lego announced the Game Boy set back in July, it sent waves of nostalgic excitement through many fans—including us. After all, this is our favorite childhood handheld system getting a Lego-branded makeover!
Unsurprisingly, preorders sold out quickly, with many of our editors contributing to the rush. But the wait is finally over: the set officially released on October 1.
For fellow millennials who missed out on the initial preorder, don’t worry. The set is still available on Amazon without the extended wait times. Meanwhile, on Lego’s site, the Game Boy remains on backorder. If you’re a Lego Insider committed to earning points, be prepared to wait around 60 days to receive your unit. Otherwise, Amazon is your best bet for faster delivery.
This 1:1 replica of the iconic handheld system makes for an incredible display piece—even though, unfortunately, you can’t actually play any games on it. With retro gaming more popular than ever, the secondary market prices for classic systems have skyrocketed. If you want to save some money, the Lego version offers a great alternative at a fraction of the price. Plus, there’s the fun and satisfaction of building it yourself!
This isn’t Lego’s first attempt at replicating old-school Nintendo sets. Back in 2020, the company released another Nintendo-themed set that has since soared in value. There’s also other merchandise, including the hilariously accurate pixelated versions from last year.
The new 421-piece build features an authentic Game Boy layout, complete with interchangeable Super Mario Land and Legend of Zelda game cartridges. While these games don’t actually play, you can insert them into the unit for purely nostalgic reasons. The real test, of course, is whether you’ll find yourself blowing into the non-working cartridges out of sheer muscle memory!
If you’re a fan of Nintendo and Lego, this set is definitely one to add to your collection.
