The Commanders recently signed defensive end Drake Jackson, but he will not be making any immediate contributions to the team. On Thursday, Jackson was placed on the team’s injured reserve list.
According to multiple reports, this move was planned when Jackson signed with the Commanders. It is part of his ongoing recovery from a torn patellar tendon he suffered while playing for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023. Jackson did not play at all during the 2024 season, and the 49ers released him this offseason.
Jackson, a 2022 second-round pick, recorded 21 tackles and two sacks over his first two NFL seasons. With Jackson sidelined for at least four more games, the Commanders will rely on their current defensive ends: Dorance Armstrong, Jacob Martin, Von Miller, Preston Smith, and Jalyn Holmes.
