**Punjab Flood Damage Report Submitted; Loss Estimated at ₹12,905 Crore**

The Punjab government has submitted a revised report estimating the total damage caused by the recent floods at ₹12,905 crore. This new figure is ₹384 crore less than the previous estimate of ₹13,289 crore. The detailed report encompasses destruction across 14 departments as well as the agriculture sector and will be forwarded to the Union Home Ministry with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s approval.

**Damage Reassessment: Significant Changes Across Departments**

The report highlights notable reductions and increases in damage estimates across various sectors:

– The **Rural Development and Panchayat Department** significantly reduced its damage estimate from ₹5,043 crore to ₹3,554 crore.
– Conversely, the **Revenue Department**’s demand increased from ₹1,858 crore to ₹2,782 crore, primarily due to crop losses and damaged homes.
– The **Education sector**’s claim for structural damage repair saw a slight increase, going from ₹542 crore to ₹547 crore.

**Health and Livestock**

– The **Health Department** has requested ₹780 crore to repair damaged dispensaries, hospitals, and medical equipment.
– The **Animal Husbandry Department** reported losses of 1,371 buffaloes and milch cows as well as 175,000 poultry. It is seeking ₹129 crore in compensation for these losses.

**Infrastructure and Agriculture**

– The **Public Works Department** has demanded ₹1,970 crore for the restoration of 4,657.83 km of roads and bridges.
– The **Water Resources Department** is seeking ₹1,520 crore to implement long-term flood mitigation measures, addressing damage caused by climate change to canals and rivers.
– The **Agriculture Department** increased its demand from ₹317 crore to ₹367 crore for desilting and field restoration.
– The **Food and Supplies Department** requested ₹7 crore for repairing damaged warehouses.
– The **Power Department** has sought ₹139 crore for repairs and restoration of hydel projects.
– Finally, the **Local Bodies** and **Forest Departments** have claimed ₹77 crore and ₹4 crore respectively for their flood-related damages.

This comprehensive damage report will guide the government in securing necessary assistance and planning effective rehabilitation measures for the flood-affected regions of Punjab.
