Donald Trump’s redesigned Oval Office is once again drawing criticism, this time over what many are calling an excessive use of gold décor, RadarOnline.com can reveal. The president and his team have made it a priority to “update” the iconic presidential workspace, but not everyone is on board with the renovation—some have even labeled it “tacky.”

### The Oval Office’s ‘Tacky’ Update

A recent video shared by the White House’s X (formerly Twitter) account offered viewers a panoramic look at the newly redesigned Oval Office. The clip showcased gold accents prominently throughout the room, prompting swift backlash from social media users.

“It looks tacky and confused,” one user commented. Another added, “No statues of the gods, imbalanced colors, lack of metaphorical imagery, and no altar. He has no idea what he’s doing.”

Voices from both supporters and critics expressed disappointment. One Trump supporter lamented, “Waste of American money. And I’m a Trump supporter. Americans are struggling! My husband and I are retirement age, and it’s tough.” Meanwhile, another commenter quipped, “You can’t tell if it’s presidential or a casino lobby.”

Even California Governor Gavin Newsom’s press office joined the conversation, describing the redesign as “Ugly and tacky.”

### All That ‘Fake’ Gold?

Though Trump has boasted that the White House is now adorned with “24 karats” of gold, many believe much of the gold detailing is merely imitation.

The Oval Office has been showcased to the public many times before, and while Trump and his supporters claim the centerpiece wall coverings and fireplace fittings are covered in gold, others have debunked this narrative.

Investigations revealed that several gilded trimmings, marketed as “polyurethane appliqué & onlay moulding,” are actually sold at Home Depot for just under $60. Notably, Bernie Marcus, one of Home Depot’s founders and a major Trump donor, passed away in 2024.

Critics didn’t hold back. One joked, “Petty is the idiot who adorned the Oval Office in gold, spray-painted, plastic Home Depot castings.” Another added, “The only thing tackier than this is the stupid gold leaf overlay shit that they found at Home Depot and stuck on the walls of the Oval Office.”

### Trump’s Defense of the Gold Accents

Despite the backlash, Trump remains enamored with the gold décor. During a Middle East trip in May, he declared, “It becomes more and more beautiful with love, with great love and 24 karat gold that always helps to.”

He continued, “Throughout the years, people have tried to come up with a gold paint that would look like gold, and they’ve never been able to do it. You’ve never been able to match gold with gold paint.”

### Other White House Renovations

When he’s not overseeing the Oval Office redesign or engaging in heated moments on the White House roof, Trump has focused on transforming other areas of the residence to his liking.

On September 5, he unveiled the newly paved Rose Garden patio, which replaced what was formerly a grassy lawn with white concrete. Trump explained the change by noting the garden was “always wet and damp.”

“When we had a press conference, you’d sink into the mud,” he said. “If it rained, it would take three, four, five days to dry out, and we couldn’t use it really for the intended purpose.”

### Funding the Updates: A Personal Gift

Trump has insisted that all these renovations are funded out of his own pocket. In June, he announced he was gifting two “most magnificent poles made” to fly American flags on the North and South Lawn.

“It is a GIFT from me of something which was always missing from this magnificent place,” he said at the time.

As the controversy over the Oval Office redesign continues, it remains clear that Trump’s vision for the White House is as bold and polarizing as ever.
