Colts' Week 5 Player of the Game: RB Jonathan Taylor

Behind three rushing touchdowns, Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was once again the team’s Player of the Game in their Week 5 victory.

After a relatively quiet first half, Taylor found his rhythm down the stretch, helping propel the Indianapolis Colts to a dominant 40-6 blowout over the Las Vegas Raiders. At halftime, Taylor had only recorded 24 rushing yards and, prior to his 16-yard carry to close the first half, he had seven carries for just eight yards. Despite this slow start, he still managed to find the end zone on a three-yard rushing touchdown, extending the Colts’ lead to 14-3.

Taylor finished the game with 66 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground, marking his second game this season with a hat trick of rushing scores. In addition to his ground work, he added three receptions for 20 yards.

His second touchdown came on a one-yard carry that capped off an 11-play, 68-yard drive. Taylor’s production on the ground exceeded his entire first-half output on the Colts’ opening drive of the third quarter, showcasing his ability to change the game’s momentum.

Taylor scored his third touchdown late in the third quarter, finishing a three-play, 44-yard drive. On that drive, he recorded two carries, including a three-yard run that set up his six-yard rushing score. He also successfully converted the Colts’ two-point attempt on the ground, bringing his personal point total to 20 for the day.

Entering this Week 5 matchup, Taylor led the league in rushing yards with 414. Unless competitors like James Cook or Travis Etienne post monster rushing performances on Sunday or Monday night, Taylor is set to maintain his league-leading rushing yardage heading into Week 6. His seven total touchdowns—six rushing and one receiving—now top the NFL leaderboard in total touchdowns.
