OpenAI’s AI-powered Sora app, currently available only in the US and Canada, has sparked significant interest worldwide. However, this excitement has also led to a surge of clone apps flooding the global Apple App Store, attempting to capitalize on the hype surrounding OpenAI’s innovative product.

A recent search for “Sora 2” revealed nearly a dozen apps mimicking OpenAI’s official offering. Alarmingly, some of these clones even use the Sora logo in their app icons, making it difficult for users to distinguish between authentic and fake versions.

One notable example, highlighted by Daring Fireball, is an app named **Sora 2: AI Video Generator**. This app has rapidly climbed the ranks, currently holding the 9th position in the App Store’s ‘Top Photo & Video Apps’ chart. The quick rise of such apps is concerning, especially given that it is far from the only clone exploiting OpenAI’s brand.

These fake apps don’t just imitate the original product visually—they also deploy aggressive monetization tactics. Many offer in-app purchases and costly weekly subscriptions, misleading unsuspecting users into believing they are paying for the genuine OpenAI service.

With OpenAI’s official Sora app limited to North America, many users outside these regions may be unaware of its restricted availability. This lack of awareness increases the risk of users falling victim to these deceptive clones.

**What can you do?**

– Always verify the developer’s information before downloading an app.
– Be cautious of apps offering expensive subscriptions, especially for newly launched products.
– Stay updated with official OpenAI channels for accurate information on app availability.

Stay vigilant and ensure you download only from trusted sources to avoid falling prey to these fake Sora apps.
