Union Home Minister Amit Shah has categorically ruled out any negotiations with Naxals, emphasizing instead the push for their surrender under a government rehabilitation policy. He has announced March 31, 2026, as the firm deadline to eliminate Naxalism from Bastar.
Speaking at the ‘Bastar Dussehra Lokotsav’ in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Shah reaffirmed that both the state and central governments remain committed to promoting development in areas affected by Naxal activities.
**Temple Visit and Strong Warning to Naxals**
During his address, Amit Shah spoke about his visit to the Maa Danteshwari Temple, where he prayed for the strength of security forces to completely rid Bastar of the “red terror” by the set deadline of March 31, 2026.
He also issued a stern warning to Naxal insurgents, stating that security forces would respond decisively to anyone attempting to disrupt peace through violence.
**Addressing Development Issues**
Shah blamed Naxalism as the primary reason behind Bastar’s lag in development. He noted, “Some people in Delhi used to spread misinformation for years that the birth of Naxalism was for the fight for development. But I have come to tell my tribal brothers that the entire Bastar has been deprived of development. The root cause of this is Naxalism.”
Highlighting the government’s efforts, he added that the Narendra Modi-led administration has allocated over ₹4 lakh crore to Chhattisgarh for development over the past decade.
**Appealing for Mainstream Integration**
The Home Minister urged locals to persuade those misled by Naxal ideology to abandon violence and rejoin the mainstream society.
He also highlighted various schemes launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party government aimed at empowering and honoring the tribal communities in Chhattisgarh.
**Cultural Significance of the Dussehra Festival**
Shah described the 75-day-long Dussehra festival as one of the world’s longest and culturally significant celebrations, emphasizing its role in honoring the rich tribal heritage of the Bastar region.
