IND Vs WI 1st Test: KL Rahul’s Special Celebration For Daughter After Scoring Century Goes Viral; Video
Team India is in cruise control against West Indies on Day 2 of the ongoing opening Test at Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday. At lunch, the home side has scored 218/3, holding a lead of 58 runs.
KL Rahul ended his century drought at home by reaching the three-figure mark before lunch. The opener took 190 deliveries to reach his century. Upon completing the milestone, Rahul celebrated by raising his bat and putting his fingers in his mouth—a gesture that appeared to be dedicated to his newborn daughter.
This century marks Rahul’s third in the calendar year, with two of those coming earlier in the series against England. The right-hander now has 649 runs to his name in 2025, averaging 54.08, including three hundreds and two fifties.
The last time Rahul scored a hundred in India was against England in 2016, where he was dismissed for 199 runs. Since then, he has registered multiple fifties on home soil, making this milestone a significant achievement in his career.
However, post-lunch, Rahul fell to a lapse in concentration and was dismissed exactly on 100. Ravindra Jadeja came in and began attacking from the outset, with Jurel also stepping up the scoring.
Having bowled out the Windies team for just 162 runs inside two sessions on Day 1, India began their batting with solid confidence. They focused on steady play rather than forcing the issue, shrinking the deficit to just 41 runs with 8 wickets in hand.
KL Rahul, who was batting on a watchful 53* overnight, ensured he remained at the crease and laid the foundation for a large Indian total. On Day 1, Rahul lost his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal just as the left-hander attempted to increase the scoring rate. Number three Sai Sudharsan also fell cheaply, as his first Test innings on home turf did not go according to plan—despite playing on the ground he calls home in the IPL.
On Day 2, Shubman Gill completed his half-century before getting dismissed by Roston Chase, continuing the competitive contest between the two teams.
