TCS hiring, cybersecurity moves under US, UK lens

**TCS Faces Scrutiny Over Employment Practices and Cybersecurity Concerns in US and UK**

*BENGALURU:* Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is currently under intense scrutiny as lawmakers in both the United States and the United Kingdom press CEO K Krithivasan for explanations regarding the company’s employment practices and cybersecurity protocols.

In the US, Senators Charles E. Grassley and Richard J. Durbin, members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, have written to TCS CEO K Krithivasan expressing concerns about the company’s hiring policies. The senators pointed out that while TCS recently laid off approximately 60 employees at its Jacksonville office, it continues to file a significant number of H-1B visa applications.

During the 2025 fiscal year, TCS received approval for 5,505 H-1B visas, making it the second-largest employer of newly approved H-1B beneficiaries in the United States. The senators have requested clarification from TCS on whether the company prioritizes hiring foreign workers over qualified American candidates, especially amidst ongoing layoffs.

Adding to the pressure, TCS is under investigation by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for allegedly dismissing older American workers in favor of newly hired South Asian H-1B employees. The senators’ letter stated, “TCS is doing itself no favors by replacing Americans with H-1Bs during this investigation.”

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, Labour MP Liam Byrne has raised cybersecurity concerns with CEO Krithivasan. In a letter dated September 26, Byrne sought answers regarding TCS’s involvement in recent cyber incidents impacting prominent UK companies, including Jaguar Land Rover, Marks & Spencer (M&S), and the Co-op.

Byrne’s letter highlighted BBC reports suggesting that the M&S breach was triggered by a ransomware email that appeared to be sent using an account belonging to a TCS employee.

As investigations and inquiries continue on both sides of the Atlantic, TCS faces increasing pressure to address these critical issues concerning employee practices and cybersecurity measures.
