**Punjab Records 22.35% Rise in GST Collection to Rs 13,971 Crore in April-September 2025**
Chandigarh: Punjab has witnessed a significant 22.35 per cent increase in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection, amounting to Rs 13,971 crore during the April-September period of the current fiscal year. This was announced by the state’s Finance Minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, on Thursday.
The state had collected Rs 11,418 crore in GST during the same period last year. Highlighting the growth, Cheema stated that Punjab’s gross GST revenue increased by Rs 2,553 crore compared to the corresponding timeframe in the previous fiscal year.
“The state’s year-on-year GST growth rate has jumped from just 5 per cent in the first half of 2024-25 to an impressive 22.35 per cent in 2025-26,” the Finance Minister added.
### Growth in Other Indirect Taxes
In addition to GST, Punjab has demonstrated positive trends in other indirect tax categories. Collections from Value-Added Tax (VAT) and Central Sales Tax (CST) rose by 10 per cent. Similarly, the Punjab State Development Tax (PSDT) registered an 11 per cent growth in September 2025 compared to the same month last year, according to Cheema.
### Strong GST Performance Amid Rationalisation
Addressing the impact of recent GST rationalisation measures, the minister noted that Punjab’s performance outpaced the national average. “While most other states recorded negative growth trends in September 2025, Punjab maintained resilience with double-digit growth.”
In September 2025 alone, the state’s GST collection reached Rs 2,140.82 crore, up from Rs 1,943 crore in September 2024. This increase of Rs 197.82 crore represents a growth rate of 10 per cent for the month.
### Enhanced Enforcement Against Tax Evasion
The excise and taxation department intensified enforcement efforts against tax evasion between April and September 2025. During this period, Rs 246 crore worth of ineligible Input Tax Credit (ITC) was blocked for 1,162 taxpayers.
Additionally, four major FIRs were filed against fraudulent networks, including significant scams worth Rs 500 crore in Ludhiana and Rs 550 crore in Fatehgarh Sahib.
Penalty collections from road checks and inspections by the State Intelligence and Preventive Units (SIPUs) surged from Rs 106.36 crore in April-September 2024 to Rs 355.72 crore in the same period of 2025. The minister emphasized that this increase of Rs 249.36 crore reflects a remarkable 134 per cent growth in enforcement-driven revenue.
