Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar Directs Upgrades At Mumbai’s HBT Trauma And Cooper Hospitals, Urges Early Opening Of Siddharth And Oshiwara Hospitals

**Mumbai:**

In response to rising complaints about mismanagement at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) HBT Trauma Hospital in Jogeshwari and Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle, Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar (Mumbai North West) has directed officials to expedite the opening of Siddharth and Oshiwara Hospitals.

### Review Meeting and Infrastructure Plans

During a recent review meeting held at Cooper Hospital, MP Waikar instructed officials to set up a catheterization laboratory (cath lab) at the Trauma Hospital to enhance cardiac care facilities. Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Sharma, present at the meeting, briefed the MP on the current patient care standards and daily hospital operations.

### New Medical Facilities and Appointments

Dr. Sharma announced that chemotherapy facilities at Cooper Hospital are expected to be launched by December-January, funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Additionally, dialysis services at the Trauma Hospital will soon operate in two shifts to accommodate more patients.

To strengthen hospital management, Dr. Pravin Bangar, Deputy Dean of KEM Hospital, has been appointed to oversee operations at the Trauma Hospital.

### Focus on Recruitment and Tender Processes

MP Waikar also called for an inquiry into reported irregularities in contractual recruitments within the hospitals. He emphasized the need to initiate tender processes for expiring contracts at least three months in advance, ensuring smooth operational continuity. Furthermore, he urged hospital administration to set surgical targets for doctors and guarantee timely execution of operations.

### Operational Enhancements and Patient Care

Hospital officials stated that recruitment of doctors is currently ongoing. Efforts are underway to increase the capacity of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds. The chemotherapy facilities are also slated to be operational shortly.

Measures have been taken to ensure adequate stocks of medicines, improve cleanliness, and implement effective rodent control at both hospitals to enhance the patient environment.

### Staff Training and Patient Interaction

To improve interactions between hospital staff and patients, communication skills training sessions have been conducted for hospital staff. Similar training sessions for doctors and security personnel are planned in the coming days to further enhance patient care experience.

MP Ravindra Waikar’s directives aim to improve infrastructure, operational efficiency, and overall patient services at these key municipal hospitals in Mumbai.
