Amazon has announced its highly anticipated fall hardware event scheduled for September 30. The tech giant is expected to unveil a range of new products, including updated Echo speakers, a color Kindle Scribe, and revamped TVs. This event will also mark one of the first major showcases for Panos Panay, who joined Amazon in 2023 after leading Microsoft’s Surface division.
### New Echo Speakers Likely
The invitation for Amazon’s event prominently features the familiar blue Echo ring, hinting at new Echo hardware announcements. The standard Echo speaker, which hasn’t been updated since 2020, is due for a refresh. Additionally, there are rumors of an upgrade for the Echo Studio, last refreshed in 2023.
If you’re planning to purchase an Echo speaker, it might be wise to hold off for a week to see what Amazon introduces at the event.
### Kindle Updates: Color Kindle Scribe and Smaller Kindle
Among the teaser images for the event, a color Kindle logo and a cryptic mention of a “stroke of a pen” have garnered attention. This has sparked speculation about a color version of the Kindle Scribe, Amazon’s E Ink tablet that supports stylus input.
Besides that, there are rumors about a smaller Kindle device, possibly named the Kindle Petit Color, which promises improved color display compared to last year’s Colorsoft model.
### Tech Advancements: Vega OS and Alexa Plus
The event invitation also features an image resembling a TV, leading to speculation about new Fire TV hardware.
More significantly, Amazon may introduce Vega OS—a new operating system the company has been developing as a potential replacement for the Android-based Fire TV platform. If true, this event will give the public the first real glimpse of Vega OS on televisions.
Amazon is also expected to share updates about Alexa Plus, its next-generation AI assistant designed to compete with Google Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
