Vijay Rally Stampede: Death toll climbs to 39 at Karur TVK rally, CM MK Stalin orders judicial probe

**Death Toll Reaches 39 in Stampede at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu**

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday confirmed that 39 people lost their lives in a stampede during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally addressed by the party president and actor Vijay in Karur. He stated that such a large number of fatalities in a political event is unprecedented in the history of the state.

Health Secretary P. Senthil Kumar provided details on the incident, reporting that, in addition to the 39 deceased, 95 people were injured. Speaking to reporters, he noted that all injured individuals are currently stable except one.

In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Stalin has ordered a judicial probe into the incident to uncover the truth behind the stampede. He emphasized that strict action would be taken once the inquiry commission’s findings are revealed.

“The truth will come out through the inquiry commission. I do not wish to say anything with a political motive. Once the truth is revealed through the inquiry commission, strict action will definitely be taken,” the Chief Minister stated.

Expressing his profound sorrow, Stalin conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, calling the loss “irreparable.” He assured that the government is committed to providing all necessary support to the victims.

“On receiving the heartbreaking news that 36 people, including eight children and 16 women, lost their lives in the crowd crush at the political campaign meeting of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam in Karur today (27.09.2025), I was deeply shocked and pained,” read the official statement.

“These priceless lives lost have shaken all our hearts. I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families who have suffered this irreparable loss. I have directed that all those admitted to hospitals for treatment must receive the best possible medical care.”

Furthermore, Chief Minister Stalin announced a solatium of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the victims and Rs 1 lakh for each of the injured as immediate relief.

The Chief Minister and his administration continue to monitor the situation closely and have pledged full support to the victims and their families during this difficult time.
