Seventeen-year-old Diya Suriya, daughter of renowned actors Suriya and Jyotika, has made an impressive directorial debut with a docu-drama titled *Leading Light*. The film is currently being screened as part of its “Oscar qualifying run” at the Regency Theatre in California from September 26 to October 2.

### About *Leading Light*
Produced under the banner of Suriya and Jyotika’s 2D Entertainment, this 13-minute documentary sheds light on the untold stories of women gaffers working behind the scenes in Bollywood. The film features personal interviews with three pioneering women technicians who share their experiences of working in an industry where they are often the only women on set. Through their narratives, *Leading Light* highlights the challenges and contributions of these hidden gems in Mumbai’s film industry.

Diya graduated from the University of Southern California in May 2025. Just a few months after completing her education, she stepped into the world of filmmaking with her directorial venture. Proud of their daughter’s accomplishment, Suriya and Jyotika shared a heartfelt message on Instagram:

### What’s Next for Suriya and Jyotika?
While Diya embarks on her filmmaking journey, her parents continue with their own projects. Suriya is awaiting the release of *Karuppu*, directed by RJ Balaji, and also has *Suriya 46*, directed by Venky Atluri, in the pipeline.

Jyotika was last seen starring in *Dabba Cartel*, a Netflix series centered around a group of women running a drug cartel disguised as a food delivery business. The series also features acclaimed actresses Shabana Azmi and Shalini Pandey.
