**Vijayawada Designated as Mentor City for Five Andhra Pradesh Cities under Swachh City Jodi Initiative**

Vijayawada, awarded the *Super Swachh City* tag in the Swachh Survekshan 2024, has been designated as a mentor city for five smaller cities in Andhra Pradesh under the Central government’s Swachh City Jodi initiative. The five mentee cities paired with Vijayawada are Narsapur, Samarlakota, Akividu, Chintalapudi, and Gollaprolu.

Following the instructions of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner Dhyanachandra H. M., a meeting was held on Saturday to formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the mentor and mentee cities under this initiative. A video conference, supervised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, saw the MoU signed by representatives of all the paired cities.

The Swachh City Jodi 2025 initiative aims to pair high-performing cities (mentor cities) with lower-ranking ones (mentee cities) for a 100-day period. During this time, the cities collaborate closely to implement measures that improve cleanliness and sanitation standards. Cities that excelled in Swachh Survekshan 2024, like Vijayawada, take on the role of mentors to guide their paired mentee cities towards better performance.

Speaking after the exchange of MoUs, Additional Commissioner (Projects) of VMC, D. Chandrashekhar, emphasized that Vijayawada and the five partner cities would work together for 100 days to achieve the set cleanliness and sanitation goals. He added that an initial assessment of the current conditions would be carried out, followed by tailored guidance on necessary steps each city should take to improve its performance.

The event was also attended by VMC Chief Medical Officer of Health K. Arjuna Rao, Assistant Medical Health Officer Babu Srinivas, as well as the commissioners and officials of the mentee cities — M. Anjayya, A. Srividya, G. Krishnamohan, A. Rambabu, and Gollaprolu’s Assistant Engineer Mohammad Aleesha.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing urban cleanliness and hygiene standards across Andhra Pradesh, leveraging the expertise of leading cities to uplift others.
