U Mobile taps Huawei as one of its partners to accelerate 5G-A and AI adoption through its enterprise innovation platform
**U Mobile Partners with Huawei Malaysia to Launch Enterprise Innovation Platform Focused on 5G-Advanced and AI**
U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) to establish its Enterprise Innovation Platform (EIP). Huawei Malaysia will act as one of U Mobile’s strategic technology partners for this initiative.
In a joint statement, both parties highlighted that the EIP will function as a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) and AI innovation lab or sandbox. It will bring together end-to-end ecosystem partners and technological expertise to support the innovation and adoption of enterprise use cases.
U Mobile will leverage Huawei Malaysia’s extensive technical expertise and services to design and integrate a comprehensive network architecture for solution development, pilot projects, and proof-of-concept activities. This collaboration will draw upon Huawei’s rich experience across its 5G-to-business, 5G-to-consumer, and 5G-to-home segments.
Additionally, both companies will explore smart monetisation initiatives by harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies aimed at enhancing the customer experience.
Together, U Mobile and Huawei Malaysia aim to cultivate a vibrant innovation ecosystem within the EIP. This will be achieved by sharing industry knowledge, global references, and validated business cases, as well as supporting startups and early-stage ventures through funding, incubation programs, and technical enablement.
Through the EIP, the partners will also organize awareness and outreach programs. These initiatives include technology demonstrations, seminars, exhibitions, roadshows, and digital campaigns designed to showcase innovative solutions and foster cross-industry collaboration.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Huawei Malaysia as one of our strategic technology partners to establish our EIP. This platform will enable the development of localized 5G solutions, pilot projects, and proofs of concept, while supporting smart monetisation and ecosystem growth,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile.
“As Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, we are committed to accelerating enterprise 5G adoption and digital transformation. Our goal is to help businesses benefit from the latest innovations in next-generation ULTRA5G connectivity and AI, backed by Huawei’s deep expertise. We look forward to forging further collaborations with various partners to ensure the success of the EIP,” he added.
Zac Chow, Deputy CEO of Carrier Business at Huawei Malaysia, commented, “Huawei is a recognized leader in 5G-Advanced technology. For the seventh consecutive time, GlobalData has named us the sole Leader in their 2025 5G RAN: Competitive Landscape Assessment, acknowledging our strengths in 5G-Advanced and AI integration.”
“As one of the world’s leaders in research and development, we look forward to leveraging our expertise and ecosystem of partners to support innovation in Malaysia,” Zac Chow added.
The MoU signing ceremony took place at the GSMA Digital Nation Summit Kuala Lumpur (ASEAN Edition), held at The Westin Kuala Lumpur. The agreement was signed by Woon Ooi Yuen and Zac Chow. The event was attended by prominent figures including Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications; Mohamad Salim Bin Fateh Din, Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission; Mano Verabathran, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Communications; Kenneth Chang, Deputy CEO of U Mobile; and Simon Sun, CEO of Huawei Malaysia.
