Bhopal News: BMC’s New Head-Quarter Nearly Ready, Inauguration Likely In 2 Months

**Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s New Headquarters Near Completion, Opening Slated for Late 2025**

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The long-awaited new headquarters of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), located on Link Road No. 2, is edging closer to completion. Approximately 80% of the construction work has been finished, and furniture installation in the Mayor’s and Chairman’s cabins is currently underway. However, the formal inauguration of the building is expected to take place only after two months.

**Project Background and Cost Escalations**

The project began in February 2022 with an initial estimated cost of Rs 22 crore. Since then, it has experienced multiple cost escalations, with the current expenditure reaching Rs 42 crore. Additionally, another Rs 5 crore is anticipated as the construction of the council hall was excluded from this phase.

Originally, the contract was awarded to M/s Samhita Construction Company for Rs 22.57 crore. However, following a structural review by MANIT in July 2022, the project underwent a major redesign. This led to a revised estimate of Rs 33.27 crore. The Municipal Infrastructure Committee (MIC) approved the new design and budget, setting a revised deadline for completion in 2024. Despite these plans, the headquarters remains unfinished.

In April 2025, the project costs increased further by Rs 6.47 crore and Rs 4.5 crore to accommodate upgraded construction materials. These upgrades included replacing flush doors with Tata doors, cladding the façade with Dholpur-textured stone, upgrading aluminum window fittings, and installing Domal-section double-glass windows instead of single-glass units.

**Current Status and Remaining Work**

The Mayor’s and Chairman’s cabins on the first floor are nearly ready, with furniture installation in the final stages. The Commissioner’s cabin, situated on the same floor, still awaits furnishing. Solar panels have been delivered for installation on the parking shed but have not yet been mounted.

Inside the building, record storage racks are pending installation. While the fire safety system has been fully implemented, essential utility systems such as lighting, sewage treatment plant (STP), and elevator connections remain under construction.

**Delay in Relocation**

Initially, BMC officials planned to shift all departments into the new headquarters between September and October 2025. However, with several finishing touches still pending—including furniture fitting, solar panel installation, and completion of utility systems—the relocation is now expected to occur only by the end of the year.

The new BMC headquarters promises to be a significant upgrade for the municipal corporation, offering modern facilities and enhanced infrastructure once fully operational. Residents and officials alike await its completion and inauguration with great anticipation.
