US President Donald Trump met Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York. According to a statement released by Sharif’s office, the Prime Minister met Trump following the conclusion of the Arab-Islamic Summit, where they engaged in an informal conversation.
At the venue, President Trump also held a multilateral meeting on Gaza with a select group of leaders from Muslim countries, including Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, the UAE, and Jordan. The discussions focused on exploring potential diplomatic, political, and humanitarian options aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza.
Participants deliberated on pathways toward de-escalation, ceasefire arrangements, and long-term stability in the region, according to IANS.
### Trump’s Remarks on Meeting with Arab Leaders
In brief remarks at the start of the discussion, Trump described it as his “most important meeting” of the day. He emphasized the goal of ending the war in Gaza soon.
> “This is my most important meeting. I’ve had important meetings. This is the one that’s very important to me, because we’re going to end something that you have probably never started. We want to end the war in Gaza. We are going to end it. Maybe we can end it right now,” Trump said.
Earlier, during his address at the UN General Assembly, Trump firmly blamed Hamas for rejecting the “reasonable offers” to make peace and criticized countries that have recently recognized a Palestinian state.
> “We can’t forget October 7. As if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body are seeking to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state. The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities,” the US President stated.
He added a call for unity among those seeking peace:
> “Those who want peace should be united with one message: release the hostages now. Just release the hostages now.”
This development comes as 10 countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Portugal, and the United Kingdom, have formally recognized a Palestinian state.
