Mumbai Coastal Road: Waterlogging In Amarsons PUP Due To Non-operational Dewatering Pump Raises Safety Concerns, BMC Rushes For Repairs; Video

**Waterlogging at Newly Inaugurated Coastal Road Public Underpass Raises Safety Concerns**

Mumbai: Morning walkers and cyclists using the newly inaugurated Coastal Road promenade at Breach Candy were surprised to find the public underpass (PUP) near Amarsons Gardens waterlogged. This PUP connects directly to the Coastal Road promenade, which has become a popular spot for locals and tourists alike.

An engineer from the BMC Coastal Road department explained that the waterlogging was caused by a pump failure. “The dewatering pump was not operational due to a wire trip. The pump has since been repaired, and water is being cleared,” the officer said.

Though the PUP at Amarsons is not officially open because of ongoing canopy installation at the staircase, it remains accessible to the public, the officer added.

This marks the second incident of waterlogging in the Coastal Road PUPs. Recently, heavy rains coupled with high tides caused minor water accumulation in these underpasses. However, people expressed surprise and concern over waterlogging this morning despite no rainfall.

Addressing safety concerns, the officer clarified, “The PUP is seven meters below sea level. There is no leakage; however, water may have seeped in from the reclaimed area. We are actively investigating the exact source and cause of the water accumulation.”

Mumbai’s newly opened Coastal Road promenade, stretching from Marine Drive to Worli, has quickly become a hotspot offering scenic waterfront views, jogging paths, and cycling tracks. Despite its popularity, the promenade is facing challenges including waterlogging, as well as issues with spitting and littering.
