Want to upgrade your Sonos’ style? I just discovered these speaker and soundbar covers in funky colors, and I love them

Sonos speakers are well-designed, but not in a striking, stand-out aesthetics kind of way. Instead, they’re crafted to blend in seamlessly with a neutral, rounded look—usually black or white—with the occasional color option available for certain models. This approach is great for versatility, but sometimes you might wish your speakers were a bit more interesting. Perhaps you’d prefer a different color to better match your room’s décor, or maybe you bought a white soundbar, then moved houses and changed up your style, and now you find yourself wishing you had a black soundbar instead.

Recently, I discovered a company called Soundskins (thanks to the r/Sonos subreddit), which creates cloth covers for some of the best Sonos speakers. These covers come in a range of tones and colors, allowing you to customize your speaker’s look without buying a new unit. Although Soundskins has been around for years, I hadn’t come across it before, and I figured many others might be in the same boat—so here we are.

The light gray options caught my eye as they resemble the Scandinavian-style speakers you’ll find from brands like Audio Pro or Dynaudio. There’s also a copper color I’m tempted by because it closely matches my curtains, which sit near my Subwoofer. It helps the Sub blend into the room more neatly than its default big white box appearance.

Soundskins mentions that their cloth is “acoustically transparent certified by the Technical University Eindhoven.” While this isn’t especially crucial for my Sub, it’s obviously important for speakers like the Sonos Arc Ultra or Sonos Era 300, where sound quality and clarity are essential. (It’s worth noting that currently, there aren’t any Soundskins options for the Arc Ultra—only for the original Arc.)

In my opinion, the cloth covers look better up close on some speakers than on others. For smaller speakers, the thick seams can detract a bit from the sleek design, but overall, they’re very effective at helping the speakers blend into your space.

On the Sonos subreddit, users have shared some creative uses of Soundskins. One person used black covers on white products they wanted to integrate into a home theater setup. Another mentioned using a cover for a kitchen speaker to protect it from grease. A third user shared that they put a Soundskins cover on their Sub Mini to stop their cat from clawing the interior—a noble cause!

While Soundskins covers aren’t cheap, they’re significantly more affordable and sustainable than buying new speakers just to match a new aesthetic. This makes them a worthwhile investment for many.

I appreciate the diverse color range offered—grays, whites, earthy tones, and even electric blue and yellow options. While I doubt I’d personally pick the brighter shades, I love that they’re available for those who want something bold.

I can definitely see myself giving my Sonos setup a refresh with a Soundskins cover in the future. That said, unlike the Reddit user whose cat was deterred by the cover, I suspect my own feline friend might actually be more attracted to the soft, flat surface if I cover my subwoofer in fabric. Time will tell!
